We are very proud of our staff.  In terms of numbers, we’ve grown painstakingly slow—it’s quite difficult to find the right attitude, background and skillset to be a solid contributor to our team.  However, the deliberate pace has allowed us to bring in and develop some outstanding individuals.  Read on below to get a sense for each person, his or her background and interests outside the office.  We think you’ll share our enthusiasm that our team really makes the difference!

Michael J. Ling, CFP®
Mike is an economics graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and a Certified Financial Planner LicenseeTM (CFP). Originally from Maine, Mike founded Berkeley, Inc. in 1996 after working with American Express Financial Advisors and IFG Network Securities, Inc., convinced that he could develop a business that focused on providing unbiased counsel for the complex financial issues that individuals often face. He has fourteen years’ industry experience, which includes comprehensive financial planning, asset management, retirement planning, and investment management. Mike has been actively involved in the community, having served as president of the Cal Berkeley Alumni Association of Idaho, the Treasure Valley Economics Association, United Cerebral Palsy of Idaho and Life’s Kitchen; he currently serves on the Board of Directors of Capital Matrix. Besides his work with community programs, Mike enjoys golfing and exercising at the gym. He and his wife, Cy, live in Eagle, Idaho and enjoy working with their two dogs (Chocolate Lab and Flat Coated Retriever) which are human remains detection certified. Cy professionally trains dogs.

Steve has sixteen years’ industry experience, including investment management, investment banking and finance consulting; he joined Berkeley, Inc. in 2003. He serves on the Board of Directors and several committees for the Better Business Bureau of Southwestern Idaho. In his free time, he enjoys mountain biking, cross country skiing, coaching soccer—and of course, like any good UGA graduate—keeping up with Georgia Bulldog football. Steve’s wife, Courtney, is a graduate of Vanderbilt and Stanford University, and teaches at Boise State University. Steve and Courtney have two great daughters, Sienna and Quinn, who manage to keep them fully engaged at all times.
