Financial Life Stages

Plan - Save - Focus - Spend

Plan

Set it up!

This phase of life is marked by rapid changes and little time. The more time you have between now and retirement, the more changes you can make to positively impact your future. For example, John & Jane came to us at age 39 & 37. Short-term goals included moving and adopting a child. We were able to provide guidance as to how much house they could afford, whether they should sell their house or rent it out, life and disability insurance recommendations, a coordinated effort to save towards retirement, and a reallocation of their investments so that their plan was at less risk of being able to achieve their short-term goals.

Save

Follow the plan

This phase is marked by those who have a plan and a path and are strategically marching towards retirement. Clients Julie & John are in their mid-40’s and came to us several years ago to construct a plan. Previously they had only worked with an insurance agent. We provided some retirement targets based on savings and income and the strategies to get there. They implemented the full plan and investment strategy. They return to us annually and contact us as questions arise.

Focus

Retirement on the horizon

This phase is marked by bringing retirement into focus. For many people retirement is a concept, not a vision. Many people have not thought about the specifics, such as ‘what do I want to spend my time doing’ and ‘what do I prioritize’. We specialize in helping you bring to life a vision of your future. We know that there are many emotional changes along the way in this phase. Clients, Lisa & Jack, came to us in their late 50’s with the question of retirement and very little in terms of specifics. They both had saved for much of their working years and had other sources of income. We put together a retirement plan that clarified their joint vision, how to accomplish their goals, a timeline of their goals, and how to prepare for retirement.

Spend

Live it out!

The true fruits of our labor are watching clients enjoy what they have worked so hard to accomplish. We relish in sharing successes with our clients. Clients, Dale & Debbie are presently in their 70s and have been with us for many years. We have worked closely with them to do many iterations of their investment strategy and financial planning. Over the course of several years, we have completed Roth conversions of a large IRA balance, navigated changes in their lifestyle, evaluated the best way to pass on part of their estate, and discussed how they want to age as their health changes.
