We take the time to develop a customized portfolio that is tailored to you and your situation.  Your portfolio's design will reflect the potential diversification benefits and costs to determine the best overall design.

In conjunction with our proprietary valuation models and experienced judgement, we use Modern Portfolio Theory to help guide our diversification strategies by using multiple asset classes from around the world. We focus on finding value for you, whether it is U.S., international, or emerging markets, big, medium, or small companies.  We use software to optimize your portfolio.  We use these tools carefully balanced with our knowledge of market history and experience.

We only offer services when we are confident we can improve the security and growth rate of your wealth beyond our fees, which are always less than 1% of the assets we directly manage.  We achieve this through the following:

  • Lower volatility.  Berkeley helps ensure individuals are fully, intelligently and cost-effectively diversified
  • Tax savings.  Managing the taxes resulting from your investment activities is an integral component of our management services and helps to boost after-tax returns
  • Lower transactions costs.  Many investment firms have financial incentives to use certain brokers, causing clients to pay higher fees.  We strive to execute all trades with brokers that provide the lowest cost to our client.  
  • Competitive management fees.  Our fees are lower than most of our competitors (based on sampling of several Fee-Only advisors in the Northwest) because we avoid unnecessary overhead and focus our spending on tools that add demonstrable value for clients.  See our fees here.
  • Favorable trading terms.  Our evaluation of the market and trading experience enables us to implement target trades in a timely and favorable manor.  As an advisor we have access to institutional funds that often have lower management fees and higher minimum investment thresholds that the retail investor will not meet
  • Risk management.  We can help reduce risk that results from the portfolio's concentration in one asset.  We can help reduce risk where clients have a significant percentage of assets in a few investments that have languished due to tax consequences
