For me, finance goes all the way back to age 12, the magical age when you could carry your own newspaper route. By the time I was 15, I knew how to balance a checkbook, collect from customers, pay bills—and make money. I saved most of that money, used some of it to buy my first car.
Attending the University of Georgia (“Go Dawgs!”), I really didn’t have an idea of what I wanted to major in. It was the introductory Corporate Finance course where the light went on. I loved that course because we covered investments at a summary level. Then and there, I knew this was my calling.
It was not until a few years after Harvard Business School that I had the opportunity to work in investment management, but once I did, everything clicked. I soon found myself in a senior investment manager position. I moved to an institutional investment manager for 3 years, then found Berkeley. I love the work here, and love what we are able to do for our clients. We are a resource for all things that involve dollars and cents, and our clients know they can trust us because it’s reinforced by the structure of our business model. I love researching new investment opportunities and seeing whether they meet the numerous check-offs we’re looking for in quality investment candidates.
